In Memory of Charles Schwartz

March 8, 1940 — September 8, 2014

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our founding partner, Charles Schwartz, who died on Monday, September 8, 2014 after a short, courageous battle with melanoma. He was 74 years old.

Charles was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, who loyally devoted himself to his family across the generations.

Of his many legacies, perhaps the best known was the creation of Avanti Properties Group, the organization he grew into the nation's most enduring firm dedicated to land investment.

But the more important testaments to Charles manifest themselves not in the business he founded, but in the many whom he mentored, in the values that he taught, and in the community that he loved.

His generosity reached people across the world. His wisdom could untangle the intractable. His maxims could distill a lifetime of experiences into single sentences.

In the coming days, we will find solace in sharing our memories of this remarkable man. But today, we feel Charles' loss deeply, comforted at least by knowing that he died in peace and at home, where he was surrounded by his family and embraced by a community made greater by how he lived.
